FAQs
The supervision agreement should be concluded as early as possible in the doctoral process. In this way, forward planning is possible, mutual expectations can be clarified at an early stage and misunderstandings can be avoided. Further details can be found in the doctoral degree regulations of your faculty.
The core of the supervision agreement is an individual agreement between doctoral candidate and supervisor based on a personal exchange. So take the time to discuss and plan the doctoral process and the supervisory relationship together and record the results of the discussion in writing in the agreement. Both parties sign the document in triplicate.
In addition to the two copies that remain with the parties involved, the supervision agreement is deposited with the respective doctoral committee. During the doctoral period, it is used regularly (at least annually) as a basis for exchange during the supervision meetings and supplemented or adapted as necessary - the supervision agreement is a "living" document (note: in the case of employees, the supervision meeting can also be combined with the annual feedback session in one meeting - see also the next section).
Supervision meetings take place as part of doctoral supervision and focus on the progress of the doctoral project. Annual feedback sessions with the supervisor are an instrument that is open to all Paderborn University employees. In addition to work tasks, the focus here is also on the working environment and cooperation. For employed doctoral candidates, however, it is possible and advisable to combine the two formats in one meeting.
